LISA CAMERON
I remember creating masterpieces with crayons and advancing again with my first paint set. College presented me with a philosophical approach to creating. Next, I set my sights on creating work to sell. Trying to make the best paintings possible... But I longed to paint just for fun with playful vigor, which led me to my current painting style. I love painting outside weather permitting, in bright sunlight. I lay down a foundation creating a composition with broad brush strokes in an impressionist style. Then I paint unabashedly, filling the canvas with splashes of my excitement and enthusiasm for the project I am working on. My paint application process of dripping multi-colored layers of pigment builds a woven surface texture like fabric. The vast layers of colors create an optical depth perception defying the flat two dimensional canvas and create dimensional subjects. The array of layered colors creates abstract or representational imagery depending on the distance from which the art is viewed. The style is loose and whimsical at first glance then, Ah Ha, it transforms into a detailed painting filled with depth. It is like getting two paintings in one.
